Daily life

After arriving Kushiro we were thoroughly taken care of, I didn’t really have to worry about anything by myself. During first week I did many introductions of myself, mean while learning about traditional starting of new school year in Japan.

All of our student tutors are very nice. First it was quiet though the ice between as all of them couldn’t speak English, but after trying few times it worked out pretty well with only using Japanese and I have already made friends with them. Speaking only Japanese is okay for me as I really want to learn the language.

Our second weekend in Kushiro we went to our teacher’s house to see cranes and to go Onsen. We were happily surprised, that we weren’t only people who were invited and we made new friends with other foreigners

2.Impression

(1) Before

Before coming to Japan I had already heard countless times, that Japanese are really helpful people and if one would look somewhat lost, someone would come and ask where one would want to go and possibly even take you there, which is most likely because of Japanese collectivism. Also I heard that Japanese people most likely wouldn’t talk to us first as they don’t talk same language as us and are afraid of losing face and that we were the one who would have to engage the conversation first.

(2) After

After entering Japan we confirmed of both of these aspects. Japanese took care of us thoroughly and we were asked everyday if everything is okay and many people did searching for us on many different things, such as telephones, internet connections even if we said that would be okay not to do so and we could do it by ourselves. I was happily surprised that the aspect of Japanese collectivism and helpfulness would go this far.
