【H25フィンランド留学生滞在記】第7週目6月3日〜6月9日
この滞在記は，2名のフィンランド交換留学生が2013年4月22日に釧路に到着してから，3か月の留学体験とおして色々感じた日本での生活，学校生活などを語って頂く滞在記です。
今週は，授業の無い前期中間試験の期間を利用して，札幌へ旅行しました。2度目の札幌ですが，今回は天気も良く，ちょうど「よさこい祭」の最中であり，充分堪能できたようです。
また，北海道大学の森先生（前釧路高専建築学科）や岸浪先生（元北海道大学副学長，前釧路高専校長，現室蘭工大監事）のご厚意で大学キャンパスや札幌市内を案内して頂いたうえ，夕食会まで招待頂きました。
特に，北海道大学には「フィンランド日本教育センター」という機関があり，フィンランドの方やフィンランド語が話せる先生がいて，色々とお世話になったようです。
今週はミルカのレポートが最初です。
Weekly Report 7 (Milka Tossasvainen)
During this week my project didn’t progress much. I only made a little more planning and did a few new models with POV-Ray.
On Monday morning I held a presentation about Finnish sauna. The presentation went otherwise well, but it would had been better with powerpoint.
At the late of the Monday evening we left the dormitory to go with a night bus for Sapporo. We were in Sapporo early in the morning and the check in time to the hotel started at 2 o’clock, so we had a lot of time to spent. We were really tired because it was hard to sleep in the bus and on top of that we had our traveling bags with us, so we didn’t want to go much anywhere. We were spending our time in Odori park. In this week there was Yosakoi Soran festival at the Odori park that started on Wednesday and lasted until Sunday, so we spent a lot of time in the park every day during our trip anyway. When we went to the hotel I noticed that I had burned my head, including nose and ears, in the sun. It seems that I’m rather good at getting sunburns. The rest of the day we spent resting.
On Wednesday we did some shopping. I was a bit desperate to buy a hat, because I didn’t want to let my head burn in the sun more than it already was and the sun had already given me a headache that lasted few days forward. The Yosakoi Soran festival started at 6 o’clock in the evening and we were watching the opening in the park for a short of a while until we had to go to the railway station to meet Juha, the office manager in the Finland Japan Center for Education. Then we went to the Finnish language class, there were Japanese students, most of them has been studying Finnish for about 5 or 6 years. Aki, the Finnish language teacher, was really amazing, he knew things about Finnish language that even Finnish people don’t usually even know. First in the class they were reading and trying to understand the meaning of an article that was written in Finnish. I think the language in the article was rather difficult especially for foreign people but they understood the text very well, I was a bit surprised. The last part of the class the Japanese students were asking question about us in Finnish and they were trying to understand what we were saying. It was really fun to speak Finnish with everyone. After the class we went to izakaya with Aki and the Finnish people that were in the class, there was also one Japanese student with us also. In the izakaya there were no chairs and we were only standing around a small table, it was a bit strange. I tasted cold and hot sake, I have to say that the hot one was quite horrible.
On Thursday we went for a tour with Mori-sensei and his wife and child. First we went to the Hokkaido university to see the festival there and also visited the Finland Japan Center for Education where Juha was telling us about the center. Then we went to the Hokkaido Shrine. The shrine was really beautiful, but it was my first time going to a shrine so I was a bit confused about the customs there. After visiting the shrine, we went to the Asahiyama Park where we could see the whole city from above, it was very nice there. Later in the day we went to dining with Kishinami in a restaurant. Juha, Aki and Mori-sensei was also dining with us. The food in the restaurant was very Japanese style and it was a bit strange but very good, I especially liked the raw tuna. Also the waiters there wore kimonos. After the dining, we went to somewhere similar to bar or cafe where we spent some time drinking, eating and talking. After that, we went to a jazz bar with Juha and Aki, and we met more Finnish people there and had some fun.
On Friday we went to the Botanic Garden. I’m not very keen on plants, but the garden was rather interesting to see and it was very beautiful also. There were a lot of beautiful and colorful flowers, and there were also many plants that I haven’t never seen before. We spent the rest of Friday and also Saturday shopping and watching the festival performances in the Odori park.
On Sunday we visited Maruyama zoo. It was nice to see all kinds of animals in the zoo and I also saw many animals that I haven’t newer seen anywhere else before. In the evening we were watching the finals of the Yosakoi Soran festival. It was rather cold at the evening without a coat, so when the festival was over we went straight to the railway station where we had earlier the day left our bags, including all the warm clothes, in a locker. After getting the bags and other things from the locker, we started to wondering where the night bus for Kushiro is leaving. Because we were at the railway station we decided just in case to check the bus terminal first, but a man there told us that the bus leaves somewhere near Odori park, so we started walking towards the park. After a while there were three people coming towards us and we asked if they would know where the bus leaves. They were really nice people and helped us to get to the bus stop, event though they weren’t exactly sure where it is either. They were young people and I was a bit surprised that one of them told us that he has visited Finland few years ago.

今週は課題があまり進みませんでした。これからの計画を少しして，POV-Rayで新しいモデル作りをしただけでした。
月曜日はフィンランドのサウナについて，みんなの前でプレゼンをしました。なかなか上手くいったと思いますが，パワーポイントがあればもっと良かったかもしれません。
この日の夜遅く，私たちは寮を出発し，夜行バスで札幌に行きました。翌日の早朝に到着し，ホテルのチェックイン時間は14時からだったので，それまでかなり時間がありました。バスの中ではあまり眠れず，常に重いスーツケースを持ち歩いていたので疲れがピークに達して多くのスポットを巡る体力はありません。
とりあえずは大通公園に行き，水曜日から日曜日までよさこいソーラン祭りが開催されている時期でしたので札幌にいる間は何度も見にいきました。ホテルに到着後，日中の暑さで鼻や耳，頭が日焼けしていることに気づきました。どうやら私は日焼けしやすいようです。この日はずっとホテルで休むことにしました。
水曜日，ショッピングをしました。札幌の強い日差しのせいで日焼けのみならず頭痛にも悩まされ初めてきたので，とにかく早く帽子を買いたくて仕方ありませんでした。よさこいは午後６時からスタートしました。今日は札幌のフィンランド日本教育センター事務所長のユハさんと地下鉄の駅で会う約束をしていたので，それまでの間よさこいのオープニングセレモニーを見ていました。それからフィンランド語の授業に参加したのですが，中には5〜6年フィンランドに留学していた日本の学生もいました。講師であるアキさん（水元先生）は，フィンランド語に関して，私たちでも知らないような知識をたくさん持っていて，とても素晴らしい方です。まず授業では，フィンランド語で書かれた記事を読み，理解しようとするものでした。私が読んでも難しいと思ったので，おそらくフィンランド語が母国語でない方々はとても難しいでしょう。しかし彼らは文章をよく理解していたので，とても驚きました。授業の後半は日本人の学生が私たちにフィンランド語で質問をしてそれに答えるというものでした。みんなとフィンランド語を話せて本当にとても楽しかったです。授業終了後，アキ先生とクラスにいたフィンランド人，日本人を交えみんなで居酒屋に行きました。イスはなく小さなテーブルを囲み立ったまま食事をしたのは初めての体験でした。冷酒，熱燗をそれぞれ飲みましたが熱燗は全然口に合いませんでした。
木曜日，森先生一家と一緒にツアーに同行しました。まずは，北海道大学でちょうど開催されていた学祭を見に出かけ，それから昨日ユハさんに教えてもらったフィンランドセンターに行きました。次は，北海道神宮に向かいました。神社というのは初めてで緊張しましたがとてもきれいで感動しました。次の目的地は旭山公園です。頂上からは札幌の街全体が一望でき，見事な眺めでした。夜は，岸浪前校長，ユハさん，アキ先生，森先生と夕食会がありました。食事は伝統的な日本食で見慣れないものでしたが味はとても美味しく，特に私はまぐろのお刺身が気に入りました。ウェイターの方は着物を着ていましたね。夕食の後は，軽く飲んだり食べたりできるバーに行き，その後もユハさん，アキ先生と私たちでジャズバーに行くことになり，そこでもっと多くのフィンランド人に会うことができました。
金曜日，植物園に行ってみました。植物はそこまで好きというわけではないのですが，面白く，またとてもきれいでした。カラフルな花がたくさん咲いており，見たこともないような植物もありました。この日から週末にかけて，ショッピングをしたり大通公園でよさこいを見て過ごしました。
日曜日は円山動物園に行きました。動物は多種にわたり，今まで一度も見たことがないようなものがいて面白かったです。夕方は，よさこいのフィナーレを見に行きました。コートを着ていなかったため外はとても寒かったので，見終わったあとすぐに地下鉄のロッカーに向かい預けていた洋服や荷物を取り，JRの駅に向かいました。そして釧路行きの夜行バス乗り場を探し始めました。駅にいたので念のためバスターミナルの場所を探しておけば安心，と思っていたのですがある男性に尋ねるとバスは大通公園のそばから出発すると言うので，私たちはすぐに公園に向かって歩き始めました。しばらくして3名の日本人がこちらに歩いてきたので，尋ねるとバス乗り場まで着くように案内してくれました。おそらく彼らも詳しくはなかったはずですが，とても親切に教えてくれて乗り場までたどり着けました。とても若い子たちで1人はフィンランドに行ったこともあるというので，とてもびっくりしました。

Weekly Report 7 (Heidi Rauvala)
This week was pretty much all out of school experiences. On Monday we had school and there we had to keep a presentation about something familiar. To be honest I didn’t get ready for it at all because I used the time I could have used to prepare to write the last week’s weekly report. So as you can imagine the presentation didn’t go that perfectly. Later that day we had again the experimentation lesson and I still can’t find it extremely fascinating. Otherwise day went pretty much on planning project and a bit starting on it. I made a decoration for the aquarium, a boat. After the school hours the time went pretty much while packing and planning the week to come. Late that evening, at around 23.30, we then finally started our journey to the bus stop where we hopped into a night bus to Sapporo.
Early Tuesday morning about 5.45 or something we arrived to Sapporo only to find out that we have no plan on what to do tired and so early. We had to do something till 2pm when we were able to go to our hotel and just sleep. First stop was at the station where we started planning what we could do and firstly to even find our hotel. While there I saw a foreigner and I couldn’t resist asking him where he was from, he was American. After a little chatting we continued our way to find the hotel. In the end we ended up walking to Odori Park and checking a small shop and then walking around and later just sitting still in the park for multiple hours and then went to the hotel and pretty much slept the rest of the day.
On Wednesday we just shopped in the morning and checked out the just started festival. Later in the evening we participated to a Finnish lesson where we met 3 Finnish guys and a lot of Japanese people who talked good Finnish and that really surprised me. After the lesson we met Mori sensei who was supposed to take us on a tour the next day. A little later one of the Finnish guys, Juha, helped us buy an adapter that works in the other kind of plugs. After that we went with the Finnish guys to a bar and I tasted the first time Calpis and hot sake. Calpis was extremely good and I loved it but the hot sake tasted horrible.
On Thursday we were picked up from the hotel by Mori sensei and his wife. From the hotel we walked to the Hokkaido University and saw the festival in there. In the university we also went to visit the Finnish center and Juha and Aki who worked there. Juha told us about the center and after his presentation we left by car with Mori and his wife to some temple closer to mountains. On the way we found out that whole family likes a Finnish band called Lovex. At the temple Moris wife taught us how the “ceremony” or praying is done. When we got back to car she had at some point bought us some goodies including toffee I think and cookies. From the temple we drove to the mountains in a place called Asahiyama Park. The view was just amazing in there!
Afterwards he drove us back to our hotel to wait the evening and dinner with the former president of KNCT. Later that day Mori came to get us again from the hotel and we jumped into a taxi and drove to a fancy hotel where Juha was already waiting for us at the door. We went inside and up with elevator to a restaurant where Kishinami was waiting for us. We ate some, I guess, traditional Japanese food and it included some raw fish and scallops and weird jelly and something like that. The raw fish wasn’t the best tasting in my opinion but the problem might just be that I haven’t gotten used to it. After we had (almost all) finished the dinner we took picture and left to a bar / cafe kind of place to have a bit of drink and we ate some chicken. When we had finished our drinks and had eaten all the chickens we left from there and went all to our own ways. Me and Milka though went with Aki and dragged Juha too to a jazz bar where we went with a subway. In the bar we then met a new Finnish person Ulla. We tasted quite many cocktails but they had barely any alcohol in them. We stayed there till the closing time and then walked to our hotel.
On Friday we spent the day pretty much walking in a botanic garden and on the festival. We went to the garden around 1pm and we stayed there till the closing time. In the garden there were a lot of beautiful plants and it looked amazing all together. In the garden we also met a cat that was extremely happy when we pet it. At the festival we met again the American guy from station and we started chatting more with him. We found out that he’s from Pennsylvania and his name is Jasper. We spent the whole evening with him, me chatting with him and Milka watching the festivals.
On Saturday we were going to go to the Maruyama zoo but I over slept so we had to move it on Sunday. So because the zoo was out of options we then just shopped till the festival started again. Again at the festival we met Jasper and I start to think it was fate or something because we met him again the third time on Sunday too. After the festival we went to sit by the TV tower and chatted there. There were 3 guys and a girl goofing around us and suddenly the girl just gave her phone to me so I could take picture of her and the guys and then she just suddenly took a picture of me and her too.
On Sunday we left early and took our luggage to station in some coin lockers and left to the zoo by subway and we found our way there thanks to Juha who had written us the route we need to take to get there. Again we left only when we had to and the zoo closed. When we first went in we started checking the map and we laughed so hard because we saw there was a 7eleven in there. After a long day in the zoo we then left back to the Odori Park by subway. We got there just in time for the festival finals. After the finals had ended we went to get some dinner and headed to subway to get to train station easily. There we got our luggage and just waited. Then we started wondering where the bus, back to Kushiro, leave and started searching it. A man at the station told us it would leave from Odori Park so we started nearly running there because it was only 30 minutes before the leaving. On the way there we came to the conclusion that we should ask again someone so we asked from 3 young people. They then informed that in their understanding it leaves from station and they walked with us, or almost run, because we only had 15 minutes to get to the bus stop. Finally we found the stop and we thanked our saviours for getting us there just in the nick of time. I feel sorry for not remembering to ask their names or if there is any way to contact them later because they we so nice and one of them had visited Finland.

今週は学校外での出来事が多くありました。月曜日の授業では，自分たちに馴染みがあるものについてのプレゼンをしたのですが，先週のウィークリーレポートを書くので手一杯で全く準備ができていませんでした。予想通り，プレゼンはパーフェクトには進みませんでした。その日はまた，実験の授業にも参加しましたが，あまり面白いとは言えませんでしたね。プロジェクトの計画にも取りかかり，水族館の飾りとしてボートを作りました。放課後は来週の旅行に向けて準備をしました。23時30分の札幌行きの夜行バスに乗って，いよいよ私たちの旅行が始まりました。火曜の朝5時45分くらいに札幌に到着し，早く着きすぎてしまったのと疲れていたのと両方で，今日のこれからの予定は全くたてていませんでした。ホテルに行き休めるのは午後2時からで，それまでどうにかして時間をつぶさなければならなかったのです。まず私たちは駅で立ち止まり，そこでプランを立て始めました。駅で外国人の男性に会ったのですが，私は彼がどこの出身なのか聞かずにはいられませんでした。尋ねてみたところ，アメリカ人でした。少し話をした後ホテルへの道を歩き始めました。結局，大通りに行き，出店などを見た後で，イスに座って多くの時間を過ごし，ホテルに着いてからはずっと休んでいました。
翌朝は，買い物をしてホテルをチェックアウトし，お祭りを見に出かけました。夕方はフィンランド語の授業に参加し，そこで3人のフィンランド，またとても上手なフィンランド語を話す日本人と出会いました。それから，翌日ツアーに連れて行ってくれる森先生にお会いしました。またフィンランド人のユハさんの力を借りて，通常のプラグのように使用できるアダプタを買いに行きました。夜はフィンランド人のみんなとバーに行って，そこで初めてカルピスと熱燗を飲みました。カルピスはとても美味しかったですが，熱燗は私の口には全然合わなかったです。
木曜日，森先生と奥様がホテルまで迎えに来てくれました。私たちはまず北海道大学の，学祭を見に行き，その後ユハさんとアキさんが働いているという，北大のフィンランドセンターにも行くことができました。ユハさんにフィンランドセンターの説明を受けてから，森先生夫妻と山の近くにある神社に出かけました。途中でいろいろ話をしていると，先生一家はフィンランドの「Lovex」というバンドのファンであるということがわかりました。神社では森先生の奥様が，神社での正式な拝み方を教えてくれました。また，帰り道の途中，私たちにコーヒーやクッキーなどを買ってくれました。その後，旭山公園という場所まで車で連れていってもらったのですが素晴らしい眺めでした。ホテルに戻ってからは，釧路高専の岸浪前校長と夕食をとる約束の時間に，森先生が再び迎えに来てくれ，私たち3人で校長先生とユハさんが待っている豪華なホテルに行きました。エレベーターを降りた前のレストランで，岸浪校長先生が私たちを待っていてくれました。おそらく日本の伝統的な料理であると思いますが，魚やホタテのお刺身，そしてゼリー状のもの（多分イカのこと？）が出てきました。魚のお刺身はあまり美味しいとは思えませんでしたが，慣れてしまえば大丈夫なのだと思います。夕食を食べ終えた後，写真を撮り，お酒と軽い食事をするためバーに行きました。そこでチキンなどを食べて，アキさんとユハさんを誘い，みんなで地下鉄に乗ってジャズバーへ繰り出しました。そこで私たちは，フィンランド人のウラさんにも知り合うことができました。カクテルをたくさん試したのですが，アルコールが全然入っていないような感じでしたね。ついには閉店時間まで居座ってしまい，ホテルに戻りました。
金曜日，北大の植物園を見に行って，よさこいソーラン祭りを見ました。植物園は，午後1時から閉園までずっといました。美しく種類も様々で，すべての植物が調和していました。また，とてもかわいい猫がいて，ペットにしたいと思いました。この日，駅で昨日会ったアメリカ人の男性とまたお会いしたのでたくさん話をしました。彼の名前はジャスパーで，ペンシルバニア出身だそうです。夕方はジャスパーを交えて3人で過ごしましたが，私たち二人が喋っている間ミルカさんはずっとよさこいを見ていました。
土曜日に円山動物園に行く予定が，朝寝坊をしてしまい，日曜日に持ち越しになりました。予定が大幅に変更したので，買い物をしたりよさこいを見たりして過ごしました。よさこいの会場でまたアメリカ人のジャスパーに会ったのですが，札幌に来て３度も偶然に会うとはこれはもはや運命かもしれません。テレビ塔のそばに座って話をしていたら，男女の集団が私たちの周りをうろうろしていたので，携帯で一緒に写真を撮ったり，また彼らの写真を撮ってあげたりしました。
日曜日は，早起きしてコインロッカーに荷物を預け，円山動物園に向かいました。ユハさんが道に迷わないように地下鉄からのルートをわかりやすく書いてくれたので助かりました。この日は丸一日動物園で過ごしました。園内の地図を見ているとセブンイレブンまであったので，それが面白かったです。動物園での長い一日が過ぎて，地下鉄で大通り公園に戻り，私たちはなんとかよさこいのフィナーレにも間にあうことができました。見終わった後，夕食を食べに出かけ，すぐ駅に行けるように地下鉄まで歩きました。ロッカーに預けていた荷物を取った後は，バスを待つことになりました。しかし釧路行きのバス乗り場がわからず，探さなければいけませんでした。駅にいた男性が，バスが大通りから出発するということを教えてくれたので出発まで30分しかない中，必死で走りました。途中，もう一度誰かに道を聞いた方が良いと思い，3人の若者に道を聞きました。この時点で15分しか時間がなく，3人とも私たちをバス停まで届けようと一緒に走ってくれました。なんと，彼らのおかげでバス停にぎりぎりに到着することができました。とても親切な人たちで，一人はフィンランドに行ったことがあるそうです。慌てていたので，バスに乗ってから，名前か連絡先を聞くべきだったと後から思い，大変申し訳ない思いをしました。
